A full-day tour of Iceland’s iconic Golden Circle. Enjoy the stunning natural scenery and see the spectacular Geysir area, Gullfoss waterfall, and Þingvellir National Park.
From Reykjavik, you’ll depart for Iceland’s three most famous attractions along the Golden Circle: Thingvellir National Park, Geysir hot springs, and Gullfoss waterfall. You’ll have plenty of time to enjoy the magnificent views and fascinating history of each stop.
Kerið Crater, also called «The Eye of the World», is an impressive volcanic crater. It was formed more than 6500 years ago after a volcanic eruption. The eruption caused the volcano to collapse, leaving a beautiful blue lake inside. The brilliant contrast of the blue-green water with the red volcanic rock makes Kerið a must-see.
The crater is 270 meters (886 feet) wide and steep walls up to 55 meters (180 feet) high. From the rim, breathtaking views of the landscape and distant mountains can be enjoyed. You can also take a 20-minute hike around the lake to take spectacular photos. In summer, the red rocks contrast with the moss green. In winter, the snowy slopes and frozen lake create a magical landscape.
Next, we will visit the impressive Gullfoss, known as the «Golden Waterfall», located on the border of the Icelandic Highlands. Flowing into the canyon of the Hvíta River and fed by the Langjökull glacier to the north, Gullfoss offers a breathtaking spectacle.
This two-tiered waterfall seems to disappear into the depths, with its waters tumbling to an impressive height of 32 meters (105 feet). It showcases the power of nature and the natural beauty of Icelandic landscapes. At any time of the year, Gullfoss always captivates with its breathtaking beauty, making it an essential stop on our trip.
Next, we will visit the Geysir geothermal field, home to one of the most famous geysers in the world: the one that gave its name to all geysers! Here you can explore bubbling pools, crystal-clear geothermal springs, and steam vents. Keep an eye out for the spectacular view of an erupting geyser right in front of you.
Although Geysir is dormant, it once held the title of the tallest geyser in history, spewing water to an impressive height of 400 feet (122 meters). But don’t worry: his younger brother, Strokkur, is here to steal the show from you. Strokkur, Iceland’s most active geyser, erupts every 4 to 10 minutes, giving you plenty of opportunities to witness its magnificent spectacles.
Þingvellir National Park is an important place to enjoy nature and discover its history. As you enter this UNESCO World Heritage Site, you will find yourself in a Rift Valley. The spectacular landscape, shaped by the separation of the Eurasian and North American tectonic plates, tells a story that was forged over millions of years.
But Þingvellir is not just about geology. Althing, Iceland’s first national parliament, the impressive Silfra fissure and the imposing Almannagjá fault, all set against the backdrop of the beautiful Lake Þingvallavatn. Get ready to discover the wonders of nature and the secrets of this incredible place. After our exploration, we will take a quick 40-minute drive back to Reykjavík to drop us off there in the early afternoon.
